Columbus, OH — Elsie L. Romano, 90, of Barnegat, N.J., died surrounded by her family on Aug. 5, 2023, at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin.

Born in Passaic, N.J., she resided in Belleville, Edison, and North Brunswick before moving to Barnegat in 2000.

Mrs. Romano was memorable to all that met her. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and hosting her family. One of her biggest joys was decorating her house for the holidays.

Elsie and her husband, Anthony Sr., owned Standardbreds since 1980. Her favorites were Angie J, Elsie’s Escort, and Kash Cordial. Early on Mrs. Romano would volunteer to sit with the family horses receiving Lasix at the track. Elsie and Anthony Sr. enjoyed afternoons at the races.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Anthony L. Romano Sr., the love of her life; her grandson, Anthony M.; and her parents, Anna and Herman Boeglin.

She is survived by her children, Anthony Jr. (Margaret), William (Donna), Robert (Pam), Linda (Tom) Cassidy, and Lauren (Peter); grandchildren, Nick (Tara), Robert (Courtney), Thomas (Audrey) Cassidy, Mina Barretto, Jaclyn Cassidy, Eric Cassidy, Danielle Boyer, and Alyssa Boyer; and great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Antonia, Thomas, and Charlotte.

Funeral arrangement have been entrusted to Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday (Aug. 22) at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 155 William St., Belleville, NJ 07109.
