Energetic Hanover electric in Dover pacing feature

Dover, DE — Energetic Hanover circled three-wide and stormed home to win Thursday night’s (March 14) $19,000 Winners Over/Select Pace at Bally’s Dover.

Long shot Baba O’Riley left alertly and led the field of quality pacers toward the opening quarter in a robust :26.3. Belmont Royale N and Iwannabewithyou advanced off the pylons — from second and third, respectively — past the quarter, and they dueled to the half in a vicious :53.4 and past three-quarters in 1:21.1 as Energetic Hanover angled second-over to stalk the extended battle. Sensing that Belmont Royale N had enough, driver George Napolitano Jr. fanned Energetic Hanover three-wide at the top of the stretch, and the 5-year-old Captaintreacherous gelding cleared the lead late in the stretch and won by a neck.

Muskateer Hanover, who circled four-wide off the winner’s cover, finished second; Baba O’Riley emerged up the pylons to save third.

Tony Alagna trains Energetic Hanover, who paid $10.40 to win, for owner Sam Bowie.

Racing at Bally’s Dover resumes Monday (March 18); post time is 4:30 p.m.
