Monday’s (August 24) edition of Fair Roundup features a results story from the Meadville (PA) Fair.

PA Fair racing returns to Meadville

Meadville, PA — For the second time this season, races were held at the Crawford County Fairgrounds in Meadville, Pa. The fair season began in June at Meadville with two days of Sire Stake racing. This time, it was the first of four days of action during the traditional fair week.

Tommaso, trained in Meadville by owner Boots Dunn, was a winner in the opening event, the first of three groups of PA Sire Stake for 2-year-old colt trotters. The son of Tom Ridge trotted the mile in 2:10.2 for driver Brian Zendt. In the second division, Southwind Nitro (SJ’s Caviar) scored for owner/trainer/driver Bill Daughterty, Jr., covering the mile in 2:07.4. In the final division, Mr McRail (Donerail) was a winner for trainer/driver Dave Brickell, trotting in 2:06.3. Jack and Sharon Claypoole own the winner.

KT Dixie Hummer picked up her fourth win of the season, trotting to a 2:11.3 win in the first division of the PASS 2-year-old filly trot. Ken Weaver owns and trains the Sierra Kosmos offspring, and Eddie McNeight picked up the winning drive. The second division was won by Charming Photo (S J’s Photo) and trainer/driver Joe Offutt in 2:11.2, while the final division was captured by Rosey Chick and the Brickell/Claypoole combination in 2:09.2. Rosey Chick is a daughter of SJ’s Caviar.

In 2-year-old Quaker Stake trotting action, Zoom A Rail was a winner in 2:11.2 for catch-driver Steve Schoeffel, who took the lines for trainer Elbert Kohler. Zoom A Rail is a gelded son of Donerail.

Action at Meadville continues on Tuesday at 12 noon.
