Two-day meet at Attica Independent Fair ends successfully

Edgerton, OH — The two-day meet at the Attica Independent Fair in Attica, Ohio, ended on Thursday. Thanks to the speed department of Bill Ruffing and Greg Swartzmiller, along with Pam Weller capably handling the race office duties and local horsemen working the track, the meet proved to be very successful.

Haydenssmoothmove (Woodstock-Punkin Ball) had the fastest mile of the fair by capturing the second division of the 2-year-old colt pace in 2:01. Becky Nichols and Curt Shoup pay the bills on the gelding with Tye Loy performing the training duties. Ryan Stahl had the winning drive on Haydenssmoothmove on Thursday’s program.

The fastest trot for the fair came in a conditioned trot on Wednesday when Windestructable (Windsong’s Legacy-On The Muscle) trotted in 2:04.2. John Miller is the owner-trainer-driver of the 9-year-old gelding.

Racing in the Ohio Fair Racing Conference will resume at the Muskingum County Fair at Zanesville. That fair will race on Sunday (Aug. 16) and Monday (Aug. 17). Post time will be 1 p.m. each day. The Henry County Fair at Napoleon will then follow with racing on Tuesday (Aug. 18) at 6 p.m. and Wednesday (Aug. 19) at 12 noon.

Franklin County (NY) Fair
Earlier this week, Joseph Chindano Jr. celebrated his 16th birthday. On Thursday, at the Franklin County Fair in Malone, he made his first lifetime drive on his father’s horse, Steuben Cindy. At the start of the race, Chindano got away fourth. He took his time and was patient. He was able to avoid a breaking horse. Chindano pulled at the five-eighths pole, reached the top at the three-quarter pole and won the race by five lengths in a time of 2:09.4. We look forward to seeing this young drive many times in the future. Congratulations Joe and Happy Birthday!
