Dover, DE — Fallout overcame failing cover on the far turn and rallied to narrowly prevail in a four-horse photo finish in the $274,720 Grade 2 Progress Pace, for 3-year-olds, on Wednesday (Nov. 26) at Bally’s Dover, pulling a 20-1 upset in the act.

Fallout and driver Tim Tetrick settled in midfield from their second-row starting position as 3-5 favorite Dandy Ideal (driven by Jason Bartlett) used the entire first turn to clear 5-2 second choice Captain Optimistic (Scott Zeron) through a :26 first quarter. As Dandy Ideal maintained a spritely pace through the :53 half, Tetrick angled Fallout into a live second-over tow behind Fusion (Dexter Dunn), only to be forced three-wide past the 1:21.2 three-quarters as his cover began to drop sharply through the field.
Turning for home, Dandy Ideal was under siege — Fallout proved a new threat on the outside, Captain Optimistic was poised to take aim up the open stretch, and Madden Oaks (Simon Allard) followed Fallout’s three-wide cover into striking range off the corner. Captain Optimistic nabbed an all-out Dandy Ideal up the inside with 40 yards to go, but Fallout continued to lift and won by a nose in 1:49.4. Madden Oaks sustained his belated rally to finish third, missing by a head; Dandy Ideal was a game fourth.
Ron Burke trains Fallout, a 3-year-old Captaintreacherous-Aria Hanover colt, for Burke Racing Stable, Larry Karr, Phil Collura and Knox Services Inc. Now a six-time winner with $881,820 in earnings, Fallout paid $42.20 to win.
