Feeling Sweet upsets Dover distaffers

Dover, DE — Feeling Sweet outlasted a late charge from even-money favorite Shanghai Seelster to win Wednesday’s (Jan. 18) featured $18,000 Mares Winners Over/Select Pace at Bally’s Dover.

Shes Pukka N left with her usual quickness off the gate to clear from post seven. Feeling Sweet secured the pocket on the first turn but then rushed to the top after a :27 quarter. As driver Michael Cole throttled the speed of Feeling Sweet through middle splits of :55 and 1:23.2, Shanghai Seelster began to improve position after shedding the cover of Beyond Words N, who was parked from the start. Shanghai Seelster made gradual late gains, but Feeling Sweet remained confident in the stretch and won by a diminishing length in 1:52.2. Shanghai Seelster (driven by Corey Callahan) finished second; Shes Pukka N (Tony Morgan) was a one-paced third from the pocket.

Dismissed at almost 7-1, Feeling Sweet proved a confident winner in Wednesday’s top distaff pace at Bally’s Dover. Fotowon photo.

Feeling Sweet, a 6-year-old daughter of Sweet Lou, is trained by Joe Columbo for George & Tina Dennis Racing. She paid $15.60 to win.

Allan Davis and Corey Callahan drove three winners each on the 13-race card.

Racing at Bally’s Dover continues on Thursday (Jan. 19), headlined by the Blue Hen Handicap Pace featuring Penzance Hanover, Grand Cayman and Bettor Memories. First post is 4:30 p.m.
