Former USTA employee Sara Frances Short, 88, dies

Circleville, OH – Sara Frances Short, 88, passed away on February 20, 2023. She was born August 22, 1934 along with her twin sister Ann to Forrest and Mary Short, in Circleville, OH. Sara graduated from Jackson Township High School, after which she went to Ohio Dominican College for a year and then went to Columbus Business School.

She worked for the United States Trotting Association for 50 years. Sara helped at Scioto Downs as part of a group of ladies called Sulky Sweeties. She helped at the Pickaway County Fair for many years with the horse races. Sara faithfully volunteered at Riverside Methodist Hospital every Monday for many years. Sara was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church and was an usher. Sara enjoyed painting in watercolors and won first place at the Pumpkin Show. She enjoyed growing grape tomatoes, and won second place at the Pumpkin Show for her tomatoes. Sara loved working in her father’s stable, The Forrest Short racing stable. Sara loved dearly her faith, family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents Forrest and Mary (Goeller) Short. She is survived by her twin sister Ann Short of Circleville and sister Mary Claire (Larry) Wilson of Anthem, Arizona. Nephews, Dr. Ralph (Amy) Wilson of Arizona, Robert (Traci) Wilson of Powell, OH and Anton Wilson of North Carolina. Great Nephews, Landon Wilson, Grason Wilson, Nicolas Wilson and Rhytan Wilson. Great Nieces Noel Wilson and Danielle (Kyle) Browning and step great niece Katlin Ellebruch.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a Rosary immediately following on Monday February 27, 2023 at Defenbaugh Wise Schoedinger, 151 E. Main St, Circleville, Ohio 43113. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Tuesday February 28, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 134 West Mound St. Circleville, with FR. Ted Machnik the Celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Circleville.
