Sweden — The 7-year-old Swedish trotter, Francesco Zet, trained by Daniel Redén and driven by Örjan Kihlström, won the Swedish Championship over 1-5/8 miles in a new world record of 1:54.2f (mile rate) – the old record was 1:54.3f.
Francesco Zet, who started from the second tier behind the gate, had a tough race on the outside but was still the strongest at the end and won ahead of Jerka Sting with Claes Sjöström, who finished strongly in the open stretch.
The purse for the winner was 500,000 SEK – or $53,000.
This was the 31st victory in Francesco Zet’s career and he has now earned 25.4 million SEK or $2.6 million. Francesco Zet is sired by Father Patrick and out of Shagline, she by Credit Winner
