Jackson, MS – Freddie Lee Patton Sr., 84, of Clinton, MS, died June 29, 2025 in Clinton, MS. He was born June 4, 1941.

Patton was a long-time horseman from Mississippi, who owned, trained and drove Standardbred horses.
According to U.S. Trotting Association statistics, Patton Sr. trained horses from 1994 through 2021 and recorded 79 wins, 74 seconds, and 90 thirds in 549 starts for $169,358 in career earnings. His last start as a trainer was with Smooth N Creamy at Oak Grove Racing and Gaming in Kentucky on Dec. 6, 2021.
As a driver, Patton Sr. had 845 starts with 111 wins, 113 seconds, 159 thirds and $60,815 in earnings from 1979 through 2018. His first win was on Oct. 26, 1996 with Rocco Porter, a horse he also trained. He last drove at the Carlinville Fair on June 27, 2018 and finished second on Pretty Iris.
