Freshman colt trotters complete first leg of Buckeye Stallion Series

Grove City, OH — The first leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series for 2-year-old colt trotters is in the books. Six $20,000 divisions went to the post Monday (July 10) at MGM Northfield Park.

In the first division, Royal Precedent and Aaron Merriman took the front and never looked back, winning by two lengths in a new lifetime mark of 1:57.3. Trained by John Butenschoen, it was the first win of the year for the Creatine gelding. Royal Precedent has earned $13,250 for owner Claude Gendreau Stb Inc. Lucky Tom was second and Prince Charmer was third.

Runs The Wind and Kurt Sugg took the pocket trip and charged up the lighting lane to capture the second division in a new lifetime mark of 2:00.3 for trainer Edward Miller. It was the first win in three starts for the Long Tom gelding. Runs The Wind raised his earnings to $10,640 for Serenity Racing Stables. Countem Up finished second and Anchor Point was fourth placed third.

In the third division, Beaueastel and Peter Wrenn set a new lifetime mark, winning in 1:59.1. The What The Hill gelding is two-for-two this season for trainer Melanie Wrenn and Wrenn Racing. Beaueastel has earned $14,500 this year. Sbrocco finished second and Kang finished third.

Bob Da Bomber and Ryan Stahl cruised to the front and never looked back, winning in 2:00.3, a new lifetime mark. The Long Tom gelding is trained by Tye Loy, who co-owns with Richard Coad, Douglas Gregory, and David Wills. Bob Da Bomber has earned $11,040 in 2023. Pleaseandthankyou finished second and Be Not Beastly finished third.

In the fifth division, Block Island Sound and Ronnie Wrenn Jr. took the pocket trip behind Luther Brothers (Merriman) and capitalized when Luther Brothers made a break after three-quarters. Block Island Sound held off a late charge down the stretch from Swan Hilluva Rush to win in 2:00.1. Block Island Sound is two-for-two this season for owner-trainer Mike Sowers. The Long Tom gelding has earned $11,595. No Nap Nash finished third.

In the final division, Gypsy Hill and Anthony MacDonald followed the live cover behind Rc Credit Fashion (Merriman), went to the front after the half and cruised to the 6-1/4 length victory in a new lifetime mark of 1:58. Jason McGinnis trains the What The Hill colt who has earned $17,500 for owners Thestable Gypsy Hill Group and Hutchison Harness. Naughty Tommy finished second and Rc Credit Fashion was third.

The first leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series for 2-year-olds wraps up Tuesday (July 11) at Eldorado Scioto Downs.
