Freshman filly Rockmatic in season’s best at Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Rockmatic beat the North American seasonal record for 2-year-old pacing fillies on a five-eighths-mile track by a full second with a 1:54.2 victory in her pari-mutuel debut, a $13,000 contest on the Monday (June 24) twilight card at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Simon Allard and Rockmatic yielded to Bottled Up Hanover, but then moved back to the outside as favorite Dance Club made the lead in a :27.4 first quarter. Dance Club went on enough to allow Rockmatic to tuck in the pocket, and from there the Pet Rock-Monochromatic filly sat through middle fractions of :57.1 and 1:25.4.

At the top of the lane, Rockmatic angled back outside and gradually wore down Dance Club by a half length for owner-breeder North State Street Stable.

In the top purse event of the night, a $14,000 claiming handicap trot, the Current Cast gelding Star Studded Cast won in 1:54.4 for his fourth straight. Starting from post eight in the last three races proved no hindrance to Star Studded Cast, who went to the front and never looked back, winning by 3-1/2 lengths for trainer-driver Hunter Oakes and the Northfork Racing Stable.
