Freshman trotters featured in Clearfield

Clearfield, PA — The Pennsylvania Fair Circuit opened its four-day meet at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds in Clearfield, Pa., on Monday, August 2, with a seven-race card featuring freshman trotters.

The day opened with a $2,396 Quaker Trot for PA-owned or PA-sired horses. Quick Deal (Revenue S) was the winner in 2:10 for trainer/driver Bryce Brocklehurst, who also owns the gelding.

Three $4,111 divisons of the PA Sire Stake for freshman filly trotters were next, and RT Girls Lie Too was a 2:09.4 winner in the first group. Owned by the Brocious Racing Stable and trained/driven by Bobby Rougeaux, RT Girls Lie Too is a daughter of Ebanks.

The SJ’s Caviar filly Leona won the second split, cruising home in 2:11.1 for catch-driver Roger Hammer. Janet Irvine owns and trains the filly.

The final division was won by Witch’s Magic Brew (CR Royal Magic), a 2:09 winner for driver Eddie McNeight and owner/trainer Ken Weaver.

Next up were three $4,015 divisions of the freshman colt trot Sire Stakes, and Cadence Hall won the first event in 2:07.4. Owned by Susan Daughtery, Cadence Hall (Chip Chip Hooray) is trained and was driven by Bill Daugherty.

KT Tag I’m It, a gelded son of Tagliabue, won the second division in the day’s fastest mile, 2:04.4 for the McNeight/Weaver combination.

The day ended with a victory by Blueridge Dagon (Donerail) in 2:08. Mike Gillock owns and trains the winner, while Wilbur Yoder picked up the catch-driving victory.

Action at Clearfield continues on Tuesday at 12 Noon, featuring 11 events for freshman pacers.
