Friday MADC recap from the Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ — With the smoke clearing and temperatures in the high 60s for the first post, the MADC series had four total races on the Friday (June 9) card at The Meadowlands, including one trot this week. The action was as hot as ever as the summer months approach.

In the first race on the card, there were several leavers for early supremacy but in the end it was a patient and confident drive by Johnny “Hockey” Calabrese, aboard his nice young trotter Cal Miles N Shell, who was also the post time favorite, who was able to get up in time by a neck ahead of Karets (James Slendorn). Blogmaster (Anthony Verruso) got up for the show dough. The mile was trotted in 1:56.1. The 3-year-old gelding is owned and trained by Calabrese.

The fourth race was next up for the MADC pacers with a field of ten going to post. When the field approached the top of the stretch, it was the pocket sitter Somewherenbrookln N (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan) who was a 2-1/2 length winner over a game first over Johnny Q (Matt Zuccarello) who was second. Post time favorite Wiggle My Cookie (Slendorn) got up for third. The mile went in 1:54.4. The 10-year-old gelding is owned and trained by Mike Terpolilli.

In the ninth race with a field scratched down to eight, it was another dash for the front and after a fast :27 quarter, Meet The Creeper (Bruno Chiodo) had command and wasn’t letting anyone get to the top. This could have been a disaster for the horse he parked, Its Rockin Randy (Tony Beltrami), who was hung on the outside through a :54.4 second quarter but in the end he was able to grind to the lead and hold off any challengers to win by 2-3/4 lengths. Toonie Teen (Sheridan) finished second while post time favorite Rockabilly Charm (Tony Verruso) rounded out the trifecta. The mile went in 1:53.3. The 5-year-old gelding is owned by Pietro Sarni and is trained by Richard Johnson.

In the MADC finale, a field of eight pacers went to post in the 11th race on the card. After a mad scramble with four horses vying for the early top spot, Doc Semalu (Verruso) wasn’t letting anyone get to the top. The fast fractions took its toll on both the leader and parked out horse and set it up for horses in mid-pack to gain the top spots. It was post time favorite Backstreet Lawyer (Tony “The Judge” Beltrami) who ended up with his second victory on the night while rookie and newcomer to the club Ideal Suspect (Dominik “Polish Power” Miga) finished second and Rock To Glory (Bruno “Mars” Chiodo) picked up the show dough. The mike went in 1:54.4. The 8-year-old gelding is owned by Backstreet Racing and is trained by Michael Polhemus.

The MADC will be back again Saturday night at the Big M with three more events slated on this Belmont Stakes Day card. First post is set for 6:20 p.m.
