When entries were announced on Thursday (Dec. 5) for the second qualifying race of the Winter Meeting for the Prix d’Amerique, the interest was so high that seven horses were eliminated.
At Vincennes, there can be a maximum of 18 horses starting, so seven horses were eliminated from Sunday’s Prix de Bourbonnais – the seven horses with the lowest earnings.
That’s the system in France. The horses that have earned the most in their careers have priority to participate in the races.
In Sunday’s field of 18, the defending Prix d’Amerique winner, Thierry Duvaldestin’s Idao de Tillard with Clement Duvaldestin, is the favorite, even though he disappointed with a fourth place in the UET Elite Circuit final two months ago.
There are four spots for the Prix d’Amerique 2025 at stake.
Three of Sunday’s participants have already qualified – Hussard du Landret, Hooker Berry, and Just Love You, who finished first, third, and fourth, respectively, in the first qualifying race the Prix de Bretagne.
Prix de Bourbonnais is the fourthth race at Vincennes on Sunday (Dec. 8), starting at 9:15 a.m. (Eastern time). The race can be watched live on letrot.com.
