Vernon, NY – Galactic Storm (Jimmy Whittemore) captured the $7,500 featured pace at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 3).
Galactic Storm ($2.40) shot right out of the gate going straight to the front and led to the quarter in :27.2. He used a :28.3 second quarter to be first to the half in :56. He opened up by two lengths heading around the final turn and led to three quarters in 1:23.2.
As they reached the stretch, second-place finisher Triple Sevens (Leon Bailey) went all out after the leader, but Galactic Storm was too strong and won easily in 1:51.1. Three In Heaven A (Chris Long) finished third.
Galactic Storm is a 7-year-old gelding by American Ideal. He is owned and trained by Whittemore. It was his fifth straight win and sixth win of the season. He now has 23 career victories.
Leading driver Leon Bailey had a grand slam on the card. He finished first with Better Double Flip, Chapvious, Devils Wish, and Major Steel.
Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Saturday (July 4) with a post time of 5:05 p.m. Fireworks follow live racing.
