Columbus, OH — Genevieve Lundrigan Cummins, 98, died March 20, 2025, in Lexington, Ky.
Born on April 23, 1926, in Brooksville, Ky., she was the cherished daughter of the late Christine and James Lundrigan, and the beloved sister to her late sibling, Rose Mary Moorehead.
Her early life was rooted in faith and education at St. James Catholic School, where she attended from first through 12th grade. This foundation of faith remained a cornerstone throughout her life, as she was a devout member of Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Church for over 50 years, guiding her actions and relationships with those she loved. She was a beacon of love and support, often described as faith-filled, loving, and funny by all who were blessed to know her.
On March 5, 1946, she married the love of her life, Alvin Cummins, who preceded her in death. Together, they embarked on a life of partnership and entrepreneurship, co-owning the Clay Wachs Stockyards, New Link Tobacco Warehouse, various Chevrolet dealerships, and many successful winning Standardbreds.
Mrs. Cummins, alongside Alvin, played a pivotal role in the success of their businesses and racing — showcasing her remarkable work ethic and dedication. Her shared love for Standardbred racing with her husband proved to be a pastime that provided them with many thrilling moments and cherished memories, as she continued to follow Standardbred racing throughout her life.
The couple was blessed with a large and loving family, including their sons, Jim and Dr. John (Bridget) and daughters, Marlene (Pete) McLaughlin and Martha (Scottie) Haynes. Her life was further enriched by her grandchildren, Lauren, Michelle Ford, Kelsey McLaughlin, Travis McLaughlin, Tori McLaughlin, Ashley McLaughlin, Megan Haynes, Zachary (Katie) Haynes, and Maddie Haynes.
Her family was the pride and joy of her life and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Tyler; and her daughter, Mary Ann Ford, and they remained in her heart always.
Mrs. Cummins’ life was filled with passions that brought her immense joy. She enjoyed playing the piano, often filling her home with music and warmth. Her love for her grandchildren was evident in her unwavering support, as she rarely missed an opportunity to attend their school and sports activities.
Those who knew her will remember her for her quick wit, her ability to bring laughter to any room, and her amazing cooking and baking. Her sense of humor was a gift that she shared generously, lifting the spirits of those around her. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by the stories and laughter she left behind.
Her passing marks the end of an era, but her spirit will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched. She was a woman of grace, strength, and kindness, whose impact on her community will be felt for generations to come.
As we bid farewell to Mrs. Cummins, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of joy, love, and cherished moments. Her journey on earth may have concluded, but her influence remains, a testament to a life rich in family, faith, and friendship. Her family takes comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved Alvin and other family members who have gone before her, and they find peace in the knowledge that her legacy will endure through those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Her life will be honored with a Mass at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary on Friday (March 28) at 12 p.m., with a Catholic burial to follow. A visitation will be held at Milward Funeral Home on Southland Drive, Thursday (March 27) from 4-7 p.m., and Friday (March 28) from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at Mary Queen of The Holy Rosary before the Mass. Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories and celebrate the remarkable woman she was. Her presence in our lives was a precious gift, and though she will be deeply missed, we take solace in the memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
