Geocentric becomes fastest rookie pacer of 2023 in KYSS

Lexington, KY — Geocentric (Sweet Lou-Geometry) threw down a :26.3 final panel en route to a 1:49.4 mile, the fastest clocking for any 2-year-old pacer this year, in her $80,000 first-round division of the Kentucky Sire Stakes on Tuesday (Aug. 1) at the Red Mile. The program also featured an $80,000 Sire Stakes split for 3-year-old trotting fillies, as well as three $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series splits and four $15,000 Kentucky Goldenrod Series divisions, likewise featuring 2-year-old pacing fillies and 3-year-old trotting fillies.

Geocentric immediately went to the lead from post position one in line to driver Tim Tetrick and clicked off fractions of :28.1, :56 and 1:23.1. The Brian Brown trainee was never seriously challenged and hit the line a full second in front of Gifted One (Captaintreacherous-Creative Power, Todd McCarthy). Reachingforthemoon (Captaintreacherous-Flyme To The Moon, Andrew McCarthy) was third.

Geocentric, a $55,000 purchase at the 2022 Standardbred Horse Sale, was bred by Diamond Creek Farm and is owned by Milton Leeman, Alan Keith, James Stambaugh and Joe Sbrocco. This was her second victory in as many starts. She paid $2.10 to win.

Mommamia Volo captured the $80,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes division for 3-year-old trotting fillies in 1:52.2. With Todd McCarthy at the controls, the daughter of Tactical Landing-Margarita Momma popped the pocket to win for the third time her career from 11 starts, beating Karaboudjan (Mattias Melander) by a head. Caviart Gwen finished third.

Carter Pinske trains Mommamia Volo, who races as a homebred for Kentuckiana Racing Stables and Jorgen Jahre Jr. and who paid $3.86 to win.

Catholic, Fearless Bettor, Capytreach win Commonwealth Series legs

Catholic (Tim Tetrick, $4.20) collected her first win of the season in the sole $30,000 second-round division of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series for 3-year-old filly trotters, defeating Moni Lisa and Swanky Hanover in 1:52.2. The Marcus Melander trainee competes as a homebred for Diamond Creek Farm, her record now stands at 8-3-3-0, and she has earned $67,200.

Fearless Bettor and Joey Putnam scored a 17-1 upset in the first of two $30,000 second-round divisions of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series for freshman filly pacers, edging Blazing Belle by a half length in 1:52. Jus A Miki Moment was third. Trainer Steve Elliott owns the Betting Line-No Fear Dear filly, who now has a record of 5-2-2-0 and paid $37.56 to win, with William Salmeri.

Capytreach (Scott Zeron, $7.40) tripped the timer in 1:51.3 to break her maiden in her fifth career start, defeating Flawless and Irreplaceable. Linda Toscano trains the Buckstone Land Livestock-bred daughter of Captaintreacherous-Southwind Thundra for the partnership of West Wins Stable, Eric Good and Mark Dumain.

Explosive Trix, Direction, Over Board and win Goldenrod Series legs

Rookie pacing fillies Direction (Todd McCarthy, Brett Pelling, $3.80, 1:52.1) and Flower Shops (Zeron, Dewayne Minor, $8.30, 1:53.4) and 3-year-old trotting fillies Explosive Trix (Peter Wrenn, Melanie Wrenn, $54.78, 1:53.4) and Over Board (David Miller, Pinske, $5.52, 1:53.4) all took their respective divisions of the Kentucky Goldenrod Series.
