George Reider, 64, dies

Sacramento, CA — George Reider, 64, a longtime Standardbred owner/trainer, died Feb. 15, 2024.

Mr. Reider graduated from Rio Americano high school in 1977 where he was on the school’s swim and diving teams.

Born in Sacramento, Calif., he got into harness racing through his sister, Colleen, and brother-in-law, Bob Rosen, at the Cal Expo mile oval. Eventually getting his trainers and owners license in 2005, he went on to run a successful barn, campaigning horses as Sheila’s Dream, FF Bigshow, He Grins Again and Twice The Ruckus. Out of 5,436 training starts, he  won 705 races and earned $2,981,071.

Sheila’s Dream, his favorite horse, was named after his mother, Sheila, who preceded him in death, along with two older sisters, Kathleen and Gerre. Mr. Reider is survived by his other siblings, Bob, Kevin, Richard, Colleen Rosen, Chris Reider-Grows, Eileen, and Maureen O’Dea; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Jax.
