Girouard, Shults, and Slendorn victorious in MADC races at the Big M

East Rutherford, NJ – With the wind once again playing a factor on the Friday night (April 12) card in north Jersey, on or near the lead was where the track bias was playing. Well, that was true for the pro races but not in two of the three MADC events.

This led to two closers winning, one longshot, one favorite, and one second choice at the betting windows.

The first race on the card found several leavers with a few stuck out on the rim for the entire mile. This made for an exciting and lively first half mile but set this race up for the closers. It was a furious rush by longshot Furious Beach (Michael Girouard), who came from last at the start and four wide from last at the three-quarters marker to get up by half a length over In Nevada N (Bruno Chiodo) and the favorite Tidal Shark (Peter Kleinhans), who rounded out the trifecta.

The winner tripped the beam in 1:56.2. Furious Beach is a 7-year old gelding owned, trained and driven by Girouard, who is from Massachusetts.

In the fifth race, the story was different. After sitting the pocket for the first quarter stanza, Bionic (Michael “Superman” Shults) brushed by the leader to gain command and he took off and looked to have “super powers” in the stretch. He ended up winning by 9-1/2 lengths ahead of his competition in 1:53.1. The two favorites made the exacta as My Wish Came True (John Calabrese) got up for second over Meet The Creeper (Bruno Chiodo). The 6-year old gelding is owned by Blazer One Racing out of NJ and is trained by Shults himself.

The eighth and final MADC race on the card the story was similar in fashion to the first race, but the need for speed indeed impacted the outcome. It was Warrawee Yankee (Mark Silva) who quarter moved to the lead after a :27.4 reasonable first panel. But instead of rationing out the leader’s speed, he went on a speed mission through a half in :54.3 with a :26.4 second quarter.

Ken Warketin, the racetrack announcer seemed stunned at this dazzling half mile and in the end this set up the stretch drive for the closers to come chase down the runaway leader. It was Whammer Jammer (James Slendorn) who won by just 1-1/4 lenghts over Rock On Line (Anthony Verruso), who was out for a majority of the mile, while Brazen Brazilian (Michael Kimelman) picked up the show dough.

This mile, off of that adventurous half, went in 1:52.4. Whammer Jammer is a 5-year old gelding owned by Slendorn, who is from NJ, and is trained by Kelvin Harrison. It was his second week in a row winning an MADC race.

The MADC will be back Saturday night (April 13) for one race on the card in the first. Post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
