Harrisburg, PA — Pacing colt Glowing Lou, purchased for $260,000 by Mac Nichol, topped the list of best sellers during Tuesday’s second session of the 85th annual Standardbred Horse Sale at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex.

Glowing Lou is a son of Sweet Lou-Teenybopper. His second dam is $2-million-earner Glowing Report, and his third dam is Hall of Fame broodmare Grand Lady. His extended family includes 2009 Pacer of the Year Well Said and 2020 Dan Patch Award-winner Fire Start Hanover. He was bred and consigned by Vieux Carre Farms and is Pennsylvania eligible.

The colt was one of four yearlings to sell for more than $200,000 on Tuesday. The remaining three all were trotting colts.

Second on the best-sellers list was Travolta Hanover, a son of Muscle Hill-Twice A Night, who was purchased for $255,000 by Bryan Montgomery as agent. His family includes Grand Circuit winner Fine Tuned Lady, the dam of millionaire Oh Well. Travolta Hanover was bred and consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms and is New Jersey eligible.

Next was Verse Nine, a son of Gimpanzee-Acorn Kronos IT, who sold for $225,000 to Chris Ryder. The colt’s third dam is Grand Circuit winner Ms Vic, a full sister to millionaire Lookout Victory. His family also includes Miss Possessed, the dam of international millionaire Magic Tonight, 2011 Dan Patch Award-winner Cedar Dove, and stallion Swan For All. Verse Nine was bred by Order By Stable AB and consigned by Anvil And Lace Farm. He is Kentucky eligible.

Closing out the quartet was Wondrous Blue Chip, a son of Father Patrick-Dunk The Donato, who was purchased for $205,000 by Determination. He is a half-brother to millionaire Plunge Blue Chip and stakes-winners Splash Blue Chip and Threepointbluechip. His family also includes three-time Dan Patch Award-winner Mr Muscleman. The colt was bred and consigned by Blue Chip Farms and is Pennsylvania eligible.

Through this year’s two sessions, the sale has grossed $29.9 million for 497 horses, an average of $60,187. Last year through two days, the sale grossed $35.7 million for 506 horses, an average of $70,613.

The yearling portion of the Standardbred Horse Sale concludes Wednesday with hip numbers 521-849 selling. The auction begins at 10 a.m. (EST).

On Thursday at 10 a.m., the two-day mixed sale gets underway.
