Goshen Yearling Sale alumni score impressive 2023 victories

Middletown, NY — The stakes season is just getting underway but a pair of 3-year-olds who were purchased at the 2021 Goshen Yearling Sale have already been headline winners of the early season.

Thunder Hunter Joe (Huntsville-Thunder Angel) was victorious in 1:51 in a $50,000 division of the Paul Revere Stake held at Plainridge Park on Thursday (May 4). The time was a new lifetime mark and it also set a new Paul Revere stakes record. After competing in the New York Sire Stake final at two, Thunder Hunter Joe is now undefeated this year and in only seven lifetime starts has earned $83,950. Thunder Hunter Joe sold as Hip No. 41 for $39,000.

And on Saturday (April 29), I Was Tricked (Huntsville-Shepulledthegoalie) won the $50,000 Bobby Weiss Series final at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania in 1:50.4, which was also a new lifetime mark for the gelding. He was unraced at two, but this year already has four wins in only six starts — including three straight Weiss Series victories — with $54,960 on his card. I Was Tricked sold as Hip No. 33 for $55,000.

Thunder Hunter Joe and I Was Tricked are only two of many that will be competing from this class of GYS graduates that will soon be joined by many 2-year-olds who went through the GYS last year.
