East Rutherford, NJ — This week was one-stop shopping at The Meadowlands with Grades 1-3 represented. The Grade 1 Meadowlands Pace and Hambletonian Maturity were the features.
Wagering was strong and the races were exciting even the couple who pulled away, and the inquiry in the Pace which resulted in a placing which vaulted two 25-year-olds into the winners’ circle. Refreshing to see young and inspired and jubilant owners winning the biggest race of their life.
This week the Grand Circuit heads up to the Spa in Saratoga with the Grade 2 Joe Gerrity late closer pace for 3-year-olds and up for a $250K purse. Down at The Meadowlands, there are two Tompkins-Geers races for 3-year-old trotters of both sexes.
Out at the Meadows there will be 2-year-old pacers racing in the Arden Downs along with eliminations for the Grade 1 Adios. Makes for a packed Saturday of Grand Circuit events.
Sunday, July 20, we move to the Bay State at Plainridge for the Grade 2, Spirit Of Massachusetts for trotters three years and up racing for a purse of $250,000. Accompanied by the Grade 3 $100,000 Clara Barton for distaff pacers three years and up.
The standings have Ron Burke still ahead in the Trainer column while Jason Bartlett keeps a comfortable lead in the Driver division.
