Nichols, NY – Grey Clouds (Ron Cushing) captured the $9,000 featured trot at Tioga Downs on Saturday (May 23).
Grey Clouds ($7.22) went straight to the front and led to the quarter in :27.3. He slowed things down with a :29.3 second quarter to be first to the half in :57.1. Vali Hanover (Tyler Miller) came first-up to challenge going down the backstretch. Grey Clouds shook him off and led to three quarters in 1:25.3.
As they reached the stretch, Grey Clouds found another gear and won easily in 1:55.4. Beaueastel (Mike Merton) came charging late to get second money. Vali Hanover had to settle for third.
Grey Clouds is a 7-year-old gelding by Chapter Seven. He is owned by Robert Kluchevitz and trained by McKenzie Sowers. It was his first win in 2026. He now has 17 career victories.
Driver Ron Cushing and trainer McKenzie Sowers combined for a hat trick. They got their other wins with Eazy Hunting (1:55.2, $4.02) and Lyons Miki (1:53.4, $8.72). Driver James Kennedy and trainer Bruce Clark combined for a double.
