GSY Series triple feature at Big M

East Rutherford, NJ — Three pacing events comprised Friday night’s (March 24) GSY Series action at the Meadowlands.

In the first race on the card, a few horses left hard for the lead. After getting to the top in a :27.1 first quarter, Setoncruisecontrol (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan) took command and did just that. He ended up parking out Snoopy Snoop (Joe Lee) through a fast :55.2 half but then backed the pace down through a :30.1 third quarter. Setoncruisecontrol had plenty left in the tank to win by just over 2 lengths in 1:54.2. Hunts Point (Lee Morris) came from midfield to finish second, and the post time favorite, Takeittotheface (Matt Zuccarello) rallied for third.

Setoncruisecontrol, a 5-year-old gelding, is owned by KT Racing LLC in partnership with trainer Maria Alvarez. He paid $22.40 to win.

In the fifth race on the card, Ferdinand A (James Slendorn) gunned for the lead from the outside post 10. Once he got to the top in a :27.3 first quarter, he never looked back. He had some challengers come at him late, but staved off all comers to win by just over a length in 1:54. Pocket sitter Brazen Brazilian (Michael Kimelman) fought back for second while Chief of Staff (Nicole DiCostanzo) rallied for third.

Slendorn owns the victorious 10-year-old gelding, who paid $12.40, along with trainer Kelvin Harrison.

In the 10th race — the final GSY race of the night — One Lucky Dude (DiCostanzo) and Claytons Bettor N (Slendorn) hooked up through a sizzling :54.2 first-half duel This proved to be costly for both as the closers came charging — but only one was able to pass DiCostanzo in the stretch, and that was Party Boy (Kimelman), who reached to win in 1:53.4. Go West Go Fast (Jacob Stillwell) rallied from far off the pace to round out the trifecta.

Party Boy, a 9-year-old gelding, is owned by Sara Kimelman in partnership with the victorious driver.

The GSY Series is scheduled to be back in action next Friday (March 31) at the Meadowlands. Post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
