Hail Mary wins Aabergs Memorial in 1:51.4f

The 7-year-old Swedish trotter Hail Mary, trained by Daniel Redén and with Ôrjan Kihlström in the bike, was parked outside the leader Ultion Face for most of the trip in the prestigious Aabergs Memorial at Jägersro, Sweden. Despite that fact, Hail Mary proved to be the strongest in the field and won by a length in 1:51.4f.

The purse for the winner was $155,000.

This was the fourth victory in a row in this race for top driver Ôrjan Kihlström and overall, his fifth win. Trainer Daniel Redén has trained three of the last four winners for Kihlström.

Hail Mary is sired by Googoo Gaagaa and out of Dreams (she by Victory Dream). This was Hail Mary’s 25th win from 40 races and he has lifetime earnings of $1.4 million.

Second behind Hail Mary was Italian trotter Vivid Wise As with trainer/driver Alessandro Gocciadoro. Vivid Wise As, who finished like a rocket on the far outside, is going to race in the MGM International Trot at Yonkers on Sept. 9.

On the same card, the final in the Breeders Course series for 3-year-old trotters with a purse of $75,000 for the winner was raced. Dutch-owned and trained, but Italian bred filly, Ester Degli Dei with Robin Bakker in the bike won in 1:55.2f.

Ester Degli Dei, who is trained by Paul Hagoort, is sired by Maharajah and out of Twill Be Done, she by Donato Hanover. Ester Degli Dei, who was sold at Italian ITS sale for 24,000 Euro, is unbeaten from five races. She holds a record of 1:54.4f.
