Nichols, NY — Happy Jack B and driver Tyler Buter lived up to 1-5 billing with a 1:54.2 win in the $106,300 New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings at Tioga Downs on Sunday (Aug. 4).
Happy Jack B went straight to the front and led to the quarter in :28.1 and the half in :57.2 before Gangsta Talk (driven by Åke Svanstedt) made a first-over move up the backstretch. Happy Jack B maintained his lead to three-quarters in 1:25.4, and he found another burst in the stretch to win easily. Variegated (Braxten Boyd), who raced for purse money only, finished second; Gangsta Talk finished third.
Happy Jack B, a colt by Chapter Seven-Exotic trained by Åke Svanstedt for owners Nasstrom Holding Inc., Wolfgang A Stable Inc. and Joe Sbrocco & JAF Racing, paid $2.40 to win. It was his first career victory in four lifetime starts.
Jason Bartlett had a driving triple, Marcus Miller and Tyler Buter had driving doubles, and Noel Daley had a training double.
Live racing returns to Tioga Downs on Friday (Aug. 9) at 6:15 p.m. For more information, go to www.tiogadowns.com.
