Harrington Raceway’s 77th season opens Monday

Harrington, DE — Harrington Raceway’s 77th season of live harness racing will commence with a 14-race program on Monday (April 10) with post time at 4:30 p.m.

The raceway is providing free live programs to patrons on-track for the opening day card in Murphy’s Race and Sports Book. Free programs will be available throughout the season on the track’s website courtesy of the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association.

Last season’s leading driver and trainer are prominently featured on the opening card. Allan Davis, 2022 leading driver, is in all but three races on the Monday program, while last season’s leading conditioner, Joe Columbo, has 11 horses entered on the card.

The feature race is the sixth, a $17,000 Junior Open for pacers. Forrest Bartlett’s U S Captain (3/1, Russell Foster) heads the eight-horse field for trainer Shea Lare, who was the second leading trainer at the recently completed Bally’s Dover meet, while also maintaining one of the highest win percentages.

A contentious field awaits in the feature that also includes Ken Wood’s Got The Mojo (7-2, Art Stafford Jr.), Gary Ewing’s Bodega Bay (6-1, Anthony Morgan), George and Tina Dennis’ Wager On Me (9-2, Ross Wolfenden), Kdk Standardbreds’ Princeoftheforest (20-1, Barton Dalious), Michael West and Jason Johnson’s Downers Delight (8-1, Allan Davis), Tyler Davis’ Ollie’s Z Tam (7-1, Tyler Davis), and Andrew Glassmeyer’s Sweet Angel Boy (5-1, Pat Berry).

Live racing will be conducted on a Monday through Wednesday schedule most of the season. There will be a customary summer break after July 3 for the Delaware State Fair, with the annual Governor’s Day racing program on July 27 (special 7 p.m. post time) before the resumption of the meet on Aug. 14.

Wagering will be available on-track in the sports book and clubhouse during live racing. Trackside seating is available in the clubhouse, where patrons may order from the adjacent sportsbook/simulcast bar.

On the wagering menu, a Pick-5 will be available nightly in race two and a Pick-4 in the last four races. Also new this year to the wagering menu is a 50-cent minimum base wager for the superfecta. The Pick-4, Pick-5 and superfecta all feature 100 percent carryovers into the next scheduled impacted pool in lieu of a consolation payout when no one correctly selects all winners in those pools.
