Henry County (OH) Fair has successful two-day meet

by Bill Peters, Regional Coordinator, the Ohio Fair Racing Conference

Edgerton, OH — The Henry County Fair at Napoleon, Ohio, avoided rains that passed through the area and completed a successful two-day race meet on Tuesday (Aug. 18) and Wednesday (Aug. 19).

A big thanks goes out to the Speed Committee of Dudley Shrider, Fred Freppel, Jerry Hershberger, and Bud Durham with assistance from Don Bost on track maintenance and Terry Adams in the winner’s circle for contributing to the success. Delbert Ludeman and Vince Smith also willingly “pitched in” wherever needed.

The 4-year-old pacing mare Hotwired (Mattnamaras Band-TM’s Hot Shot) turned in the fastest mile of the fair in 2:00.3. Jim Mulinix owns and trains the mare with Mark Headworth doing the driving.

The fastest trotting mile at the meet came when the 8-year-old mare Beauty Chip (Chip Chip Hooray-Striking Beauty) captured the Free For All Trot in 2:03.4. Bob Rowland trains and drives the mare with Jodi Hammell paying the bills.

Ken Holliday was the leading driver with six wins over the two days of racing. Ron Steck led all trainers by sending four horses to the winner’s circle.

Ohio Fair Racing Conference action continues at the Lake County Fair at Painesville on Saturday (Aug. 22) and Sunday (Aug. 23). Post time each day will be 1 p.m. That will be followed with two evenings of racing at the Defiance County Fair at Hicksville. They will race on Tuesday (Aug. 25) and Friday (Aug. 28). Their racing will have 6:30 p.m. post times each evening.
