Burlington, NJ – For over 60 years, while horsemen have been dedicated to racing, managing the daily care of their horses, and advocating on their behalf, Harness Horsemen International has worked diligently behind the scenes to ensure that the interests of horsemen are effectively represented.
HHI remains committed to serving horsemen by acting as their voice at both the local and national levels, striving to ensure the continued unity and long-term support of the industry.
Since 1964, Harness Horsemen International has been dedicated to enhancing the harness racing industry.
- HHI was formed to collectively represent all harness horsemen’s associations on national issues.
- Jerome Hauck was instrumental in the founding of HHI. Working with representatives from other horsemen’s organizations, Hauck incorporated HHI in 1964.
- 1968 he became HHI’s second president and served in that capacity for 12 years.
- During his tenure as a delegate and officer to HHI, Jerry worked to assure the rights of horsemen and to assure that the industry looked after their well-being.
What Has HHI done for the Industry?
- HHI was an advocate and helped pass The Federal Interstate Horseracing Act which protected horsemen by giving them control over the exporting of their simulcasting signals. HHI testified in favor of the legislation.
- The Federal Interstate Act is still in place today.
- HHI provides a third-party liability policy to our members through Lloyd’s Of London.
- Jerome L. Hauck Scholarship was formed in 1986 and has since awarded over $150,000 in scholarships.
- For years, HHI also collectively managed and administered the International Harness Racing Group Insurance Trust Fund for all member associations.
