Anderson, IN – The connections of two-time Indiana Sire Stakes champion pacer Buzzsaw Russ have announced the Indiana standout has been retired following an injury sustained this spring.

Purchased as a yearling during the 2021 Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale by Russ Beeman and Charles Weaver, the Missy Essig-trained gelded son of Rockin Image-Up Front Cruiser exploded onto the scene at 2, winning four of nine races including the $250,000 Indiana Sire Stakes Super Final with regular pilot John DeLong over career rival Coach Stefanos.
After depositing $235,560 into the bank at age 2, Buzzsaw Russ returned at 3 with a quarter-million-dollar season. Buzzsaw Russ won four of 17 at 3, including matching the track record for 3-year-old pacing geldings at Harrah’s Hoosier Park with a 1:48.2 career-best clocking against Indiana Sire Stakes company on July 21, 2023. Buzzsaw Russ would also prove he could take on the nation’s best, hitting the board with a third-place effort in the Carl Milstein at Northfield Park that season behind Seven Colors.
Buzzsaw Russ would again bank six figures at ages 4 and 5, tacking on his second Indiana Sire Stakes final in 2025 with a win in the Aged Pace in a field that included the likes of Little Rocket Man, Coach Stefanos, and Ponda Warrior. Buzzsaw Russ retired with $860,994 in career earnings, winning 18 of 61 lifetime starts while hitting the board 43 times.
