Ft. Washington, MD — In sports, the cliche proves true, sometimes it’s a game of inches. For Island Of The Sea, his last two wins at Rosecroft have been literally by inches in great finishes.
Monday night (Sept. 30), the 7-year-old son of Always A Virgin was chugging along second over and when his cover On The Cards N ducked to the pylons, it gave the eventual winner a clear path around the final turn. He caught a stubborn pacesetter in Business Director and held off Ammo on his opposite flank. The three horses were separated by less than a foot in a thrilling photo finish. Jason Thompson guided the winner for the third straight week for Eric and Lisa Ell, winning in 1:51.
Russell Foster won four races on the card, twice for trainer Courtney Books, with Redwood Again and the popular Precision Bluechip, who for the 46th time in his career.
Rocktavius took home his 58th career win for owner-trainer Bib Roberts, who had two wins on the night, in a 30-1 shocker. Listed at 9-2 on the morning line, Rocktavius got a great trip from driver Eric Davis, sliding up the passing lane to score the upset.
Jonathan Roberts and Johnathan Ahle each won twice on the card.
