Italian trotters once again in spotlight

Montegiorgio, IT — Two of big international trotting races held Sunday afternoon in Europe was won by Italian trotters.

In Italy, the Group 1- race, Palio dei Comuni at the track in Montegiorgio was won by Akela Pal Ferme with Antonio de Nardi in the bike in 1:54.3h with a purse of 54,050 Euro for the winner.

The Palio is a special race with three eliminations and a total of 24 trotters engaged.

Each trotter represents a town, or a county from the area around Montegiorgio and is the biggest event of the year at the track.

In The Netherlands, the historic Prijs der Giganten was raced at the track in Wolvega.

The French trotter Etonnant with Anthony Barrier returned to action for the first time since he raced in The International Trot at Yonkers Raceway and was favored to win.

However, Etonnant went off stride within the last quarter and was disqualified.

The Italian mare, Zeudi Amg – trained by Alessandro Gocciadoro – and with Rock Ebbinge in the bike – won quite easy in 1:55f (mile rate) – the purse for the winner was 35,000 Euro.
