Janet Karlet, 101, dies

Columbus, OH — Janet Karlet, 101, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died at her residence while surrounded by her loving family on Jan. 17, 2023.

Janet Juanita was born Oct. 6, 1921, at Atlanta in Pickaway County, Ohio. She was the daughter of McKinley and Doris Kelley Kirkpatrick. She was a 1939 graduate of Atlanta High School and lived most of her life in Long Island, N.Y. and Washington Court House.

In high school she rode horses and played basketball and her parents would take her to Columbus frequently to watch the OSU basketball games. She was a lifelong OSU Buckeye fan.

After graduation she moved from the farm to Washington Court House. As a young person, she studied voice and was often asked to sing at private events around Washington Court House.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Washington Country Club and the Cecilians Music Club.

The family business of harness racing took her on many travels to the East and West coasts. She attended the Little Brown Jug, of which her father was a founding director, every year since its inception in 1946.

She is survived by her children, Natalie Wentworth, Corinne (Gary) McCandless and Edward (Jacqueline) Cobb II; stepsons, Lynn (Mary) and Jimmy; stepdaughter, Roxanne (Tim) Ward; grandchildren, Michelle (Andrew Grabowski) Wentworth, Nicole (Federico) DelRisco, Edward Cobb, III, Christopher (Amanda) Cobb, Karin (Kevin) Darlington, Debbie (John) Morning, Micah (Jessica) Ward, John David (JD) Baker and April (Duane) Maynard; great-grandchildren, Noah Wentworth, Noelle Wentworth, Sophia DelRisco, Lexi Darlington, Aubree Darlington, Ella Morning and Brittany Maynard; and many Kirkpatrick cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, George Edward Cobb and Frank Karlet.

Friends may call at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House on Sunday (Jan. 22) from 2-4 p.m. The funeral will be Monday (Jan. 23) at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Jim Blair officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery.
