Sacramento, CA — Jersey Bouncer needed only a single qualifier since his dominance in June and July of this year before winning the feature race at Cal-Expo on Saturday night, October 2, in 1:51.4. The event was a pace for winners over $10,000 life, racing for a purse of $7,200. Rick Plano left with the altered son of Presidential Ball enough to take third going into the opening quarter. When Plano saw that quarter passed in :28 flat he tipped Jersey Bouncer out and they easily brushed to the lead, the horse under a stout hold. The half went in :55.4 and the three-quarters in 1:23.4. After that, Tim Maier came out of fourth with Cunning Liar and closed swiftly, but Jersey Bouncer had a margin sufficient to win even though it was fairly close at the wire. Chip Lackey yanked Leavnona Jateplane out of last with three/sixteenths left to pace and he closed resolutely to take third. Dr. Lee Gellerman and wife Arlene of Cypress, and Cyril and Lola Green of Venice own the winner. He is a former winner of an elimination race for the Meadowlands Pace. His life earnings now stand at a bit more than $276,000. Plano also trains this seven-year-old out of the Matt’s Scooter mare Mattlantic City.
