Jimmy Freight wins in Rosecroft debut

Ft. Washington, MD — A winner of over $1.7 million lifetime, Jimmy Freight made his Rosecroft debut a winning one, scoring in the $12,000 Open on Thursday (Nov. 30) in 1:52.3.

Jonathan Roberts guided the winner for Let It Ride Stables and Jimmy Freight Stable, and trainer Michael Hall.

Roberts had schooled Jimmy Freight and qualified him over the past two weeks, and this week took on potential Horse of the Meet candidate Marco Beach as both left from the extreme outside. Jimmy Freight was clearing to the lead as the timer put up :26 for the opening quarter.

From there, Roberts throttled down the son of Sportswriter who won for the 37th time in 84 career starts. Roberts got a middle half of :58.1 before sprinting home in :28.2 to win in 1:52.3. Snoopy Snoop (Trae Porter) was second and Marco Beach (Eric Davis) held for third.

It was one of three training wins on the night for Hall.

Johnathan Ahle and Love Me Some Lou, a recent $20,000 claim for trainer Johnny Crites Jr., overtook the pacesetting Fantastic Voyage (Jared Moyer) down the backside to win in the $10,000 Open II category in 1:51.3. It was one of three wins for Ahle on the night and four wins for Crites. Sea Of Life (Corey Braden) was second and Tapped Teen (Roberts) was placed third.

Frank Milby won three times while Russell Foster and Roberts each won twice.
