Keep Asking springs New York Sire Stakes upset

Vernon, NY — Keep Asking and Scott Zeron charged late to win Friday’s (Aug. 18) $108,200 New York Sire Stakes event for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings at Vernon Downs.

Wild Ticket (Brian Sears) battled Situationship (Jason Bartlett) for the lead through a :26.2 first quarter before yielding to Situationship, who took the lead on the backstretch and controlled middle splits of :55.2 and 1:25.

As they reached the stretch, Situationship seemed well in control but started to tire in mid-stretch. It Wasn’t Me (Tyler Buter) emerged late and Keep Asking came flying three-wide. Keep Asking then blew right on by to equal the track record for 2-year-old trotting colts with a win in 1:54. It Wasn’t Me finished second; Situationship held on for third.

John MacDonald and Barton Dalious continue to slug it out for leading driver. MacDonald leads with 58 trips to the winner’s circle; Dalious is just three behind with 55 wins on the season.
