Kodack Black repeats in second DSBF prelim

Dover, DE — Kodack Black, who won the $110,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund (DSBF) summer series final for 3-year-old male trotters in July at Harrington Raceway, is poised for a second seasonal title in the First State after coasting to an open-length score in his $20,000 second-round DSBF series division on Tuesday (Dec. 5) at Bally’s Dover.

Montrell Teague sent Kodack Black to a clear lead over Reddy Fox (driven by Art Stafford Jr.) on approach to the first turn, and the pair controlled splits of :30, 1:00 and 1:29.1 before accelerating clear through the far turn. The Kodak Lindy-Love On Broadway gelding capped his 1:58 mile with a :28.4 final quarter, dismissing of Reddy Fox and evading runner-up Hespookshescores (Russell Foster) by 8-1/2 lengths. Royal Mistake (Justin Vincent) finished third.

Kodack Black, whom Clyde Francis trains for George Teague Jr. Inc., David Collins and Lakiyah Teachey, is a 13-time winner with $207,979 in career earnings. He paid $2.10 to win.

The other division, a non-wagering event conducted before the pari-mutuel program, went to Joe Columbo trainee I Got It Made. In line to Ross Wolfenden, the Iron Mine Bucky-Rapsong gelding sat last in the four-horse field before vaulting down the grandstand in mid-stretch to win in 1:58.4, out-kicking the first-over Perfect Twenty (Victor Kirby) by a half length. Longtime pacesetter Paleface (Ross Shand) was a gamely defeated third.

I Got It Made is now a four-time winner with $63,484 earned for owner-breeder George & Tina Dennis Racing.

Second-round winners Kodack Black and I Got It Made will be joined in next Tuesday’s (Dec. 12) $110,000 DSBF series final by first-round winner Paleface, Hespookshescores, Reddy Fox, Royal Mistake, Youngbuck and Perfect Twenty.

Thirteen sophomore pacing fillies are slated to square off in a pair of $20,000 second-round DSBF series divisions at the beginning of Wednesday’s (Dec. 6) 15-race program at Bally’s Dover. First post is 4:30 p.m.
