Last call for March 15 stakes payments

The March 15 deadline is drawing near for many stakes payments. Below are a list of notices that have recently been submitted to the USTA Newsroom. The following information regarding upcoming stakes payments is not meant to be a complete list of every required stakes payment. It is a list of only those notifications that have been provided directly to the USTA for posting here. For more information on payments, click here.

NYSS 2-year-old eligibility payments due March 15

Albany, NY — The New York Sire Stakes 2024 horse eligibility payments for all 2-year-old colt/gelding and fillies are due  March 15. To comply, this form must be completed, sent and postmarked by March 15, along with payments. Payments may also be made online here.

All checks should be made out to the Agriculture & NYS Horse Breeding Development Fund and mailed to: New York Sire Stakes Program, 230 Washington Avenue Extension, Suite 101, Albany, NY 12203.

If a colt/gelding or filly is only racing in County Fair races, no fee is required, but nominations are due March 15.

Scioto March 15 nomination payments due

Columbus, OH — Nominations for events held at Eldorado Scioto Downs — the Moni Maker, Nadia Lobell and Ohio State Fair races — are due March 15.

The Nadia Lobell, for 3-year-old pacing fillies, and the Moni Maker, for 3-year-old trotting fillies, will move to Scioto for 2024 and will be held on Saturday (July 6). The nomination fee for both $120,000 events is $750. The $1,000 sustaining payment will be due on April 15, with the declaration fee set at $1,500. Nomination and sustaining payments should be made out and mailed to The Red Mile.

The Ohio State Fair races for Ohio-sired 2- and 3-year-olds also have a nomination fee due March 15. That fee is $250 and should be made payable and sent to the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association. Ohio State Fair races will be held Aug. 1-3 at Scioto.

Conditions for all events are available on the USTA website at horsemen.ustrotting.com.

The 90-day 2024 Eldorado Scioto Downs race meet will open on Thursday (May 9) and conclude on Saturday (Sept. 14). Races will be held Tuesday-Saturday, with special holiday cards on Memorial Day and Labor Day taking place instead of the Tuesday card that week. First post will be 5:45 p.m. each day except for Friday (Sept. 13) which will have a 6:15 p.m. post to help accommodate horsemen attending the Ohio Selected Yearling Sale. Maryland 2-year-old payments due March 15

Ocean Pines, MD — Two-year-old payments (foals of 2022) are due to the Maryland Standardbred Fund and the Maryland Sire Stakes on March 15.

This payment must be made to maintain eligibility.

All staking forms, race dates and stallion pedigrees are now available online. Please use our website for all your current MSRF info and any updates as they become available.

We recommend that all payments be sent by certified mail or priority mail with tracking. Please use the following address for the Maryland Standardbred Race Fund: P.O. Box 1530, Ocean Pines, MD 21811.

Delaware (OH) March 15 payments due

Delaware, OH — Two-year-old sustaining payments for the 80th edition of the Little Brown Jug, the 55th Jugette, the 73rd Old Oaken Bucket (3-year-old open trot) and the 73rd Buckette (3-year-old filly trot) are due March 15. These payments are for foals of 2022 and will be raced in 2025.

Two-year-olds not nominated in the May 15, 2023 yearling payment may be made eligible through a supplemental nomination fee of $400 due on or before the March 15 payment. This supplemental payment is in addition to the normal March 15 payment.

Sustaining payments are also due for the 85th Standardbred 2-year-old colt and filly stakes for foals of 2022 to be raced in 2024.

The $1.2 million (est.) Ohio Breeders Championships require a single $300 ($100 for the older events) nomination payment due March 15 with no further sustaining payments required.

Also on the Delaware County Fair race schedule are $20,000 legs of the Buckeye Stallion Series. To nominate to the BSS, a $250 nomination fee is due with no further sustaining payments required.

The Delaware County Fair is once again pleased to be a part of the Ohio Fair Racing Conference. The OFRC events require either a $75 nomination fee for just the Delaware County Fair or $440 for all the OFRC events. Nominations for the BSS and ORFC events must be postmarked by March 15 and sent directly to the Ohio Harness Horseman’s Association, 2237 Sonora Drive, Grove City, OH 43123.

The five-day Delaware Grand Circuit meet opens Sunday (Sept. 15) and will run through Thursday (Sept. 19).

Pompano Beach, FL — The following FSBOA March 15 stakes payments are due.

Payment due for C$200,000 Prix d’Ete at Hippodrome 3R

Trois-Rivieres, PQ — The Quebec Jockey Club has sent out a last call to the owner/trainers of any 4-year-old pacers, that nominations for the C$200,000 Prix d’Ete race must be made by Friday (March 15).

The C$200,000 Prix d’Ete will be held on Sunday (Aug. 18).

Continued from prior Prix d’Ete conditions for the race is that horses that finish sixth through eighth will each get C$1,000.

Only the top eight money winners this season, up until time of entry, will be allowed in the Prix d’Ete final.

To make nomination payments, owners/trainers can go to www.standardbredcanada.ca or to www.quebecjockeyclub.com and get the necessary nomination forms.

Please note there are no supplemental payments allowed for the Prix d’Ete. This first nomination payment must be made to be eligible.

Empire Breeders Classic payments due

Nichols, NY — Tioga and Vernon Downs invite your participation in their 2024 stakes program.

The $1 million (est.) Empire Breeders Classic will follow the same format as the past few seasons, raced as a single event with no eliminations, being split into divisions with the purse and entry fee to be divided by the number of divisions if more than 10 are declared to race.

Payments are due by March 15 to sustain a 3-year-old to race in 2024, nominate a 2-year-old to race in 2025 or nominate a sire standing in New York to make the 2023 foals eligible to the 2026 race.
