Last Glow wires Dover trotters

Dover, DE — Last Glow was a gate-to-wire winner in Tuesday night’s (March 19) featured $16,000 winners-over trot at Bally’s Dover.

Last Glow, Crystal Fashion and The Fast Lane all wanted the early lead, and Last Glow secured the top spot after even-money favorite The Fast Lane, who had won nine consecutive races, made a break approaching the :28.2 quarter. With The Fast Lane out of contention, Last Glow and driver Jack Parker Jr. backed the half to :58 with Crystal Fashion racing in the pocket, Swan In Motion stalking from third, and 13-year-old JL Cruze commencing a first-over bid up the backstretch.

As Last Glow accelerated to three-quarters in 1:25.4, JL Cruze became leg weary, forcing Speed Away and That Ole Bar Stool to swing off cover approaching the top of the stretch. Last Glow repelled the late challenge of Speed Away to win by a half length in 1:55; Swan In Motion finished a ground-saving third.

Tim Tetrick led all drivers with a hat trick on the 14-race card.

The Wednesday (March 20) card features the Mares Open Handicap Pace, in which Jody takes on Lyons Bettorday and Disturbed Hanover. First post is 4:30 p.m.
