Topsham, ME – Price players had a field day at the Topsham Fair on Monday (Aug. 10) as a pair of veteran drivers brought home a pair of upsets winners while a select shrewd few punters roared their approval and the remainder gasped in surprise.
David Ingraham reasserted his reputation as “Double-Digit Dave” on Tuesday, scoring at 30-1 odds with a horse that most took for granted but should not have ignored, the aptly named Seriously Feared.

Ingraham secured a strategic pocket trip behind Shoreview (McGwire Sowers), tracked the rabbit from the garden seat through a keen :58.2 back half, and then outsprinted the front-runner at the wire with an incredible late :28.4 late kick home. The final margin was a mere half-length after the 1:59.3 epic but the result was more than adequate to return $62.80 to Ingraham’s grateful backers.
Seriously Feared is trained by Sherman Clary Jr. for owner Norman Black. The win was the first of the season for the recent Oak Grove acquisition.
Two races later, Joey Mosher ordered the 25-1 shot, General Ward, into a gate-to-wire, double-time power march. Fearless and strident, Mosher never let any of his fellow combatants come within even a length of his smart martial pace, guiding his charge to a triumphant 3-1/2-length margin, timed in a seasonal best 1:57.3.
Owned by Diane Dunn, who is an actual Major General serving as the adjutant general of the Maine Army National Guard and the Maine Air National Guard, General Ward returned $53.80 to win while securing the 42nd win of his career.
Racing will continue throughout the week at Topsham with post time on Wednesday (Aug. 12) slated for 1 p.m. (EDT) for the betting program while early non-wagering Maine Sire Stakes races will be conducted at noon.
