Eldon, IA – To celebrate the life of Iowa horseman, Jake Saner, family and friends gathered at Eldon, Iowa on Wednesday (June 12). At his favorite track, race two featured the Iowa Registered 3-Year-olds and Older Trot which was named in his honor, the Jake Saner Memorial.
Looking for a second consecutive win of the season, the 2024 Trou Inspiration Memorial winner, Luka (Rob Anderson), drew the five-hole. As the gate folded, Baby Flash (Chad Svendsen) sprinted out from the three-hole, trying to hold off Luka as they raced the first turn. Unable to hold the lead, Baby Flash conceded the rail to Luka.
Taking command, Luka passed the quarter-pole in :31.1 and led the field to the half in 1:02.3 with Baby Flash sitting in the pocket. Luka began pulling away, gaining a two-length lead, as he raced past the three-quarters in 1:33.3.
Reaching the top of the lane, Luka trotted strong to the wire. All alone at the finish, Luka captured the victory in 2:03.4 for owner Jim Reese.
Harness racing resumes on Saturday (June 21) at West Liberty, Iowa. Post time is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
