MADC in action on Friday at The Big M

East Rutherford, NJ — With the temperatures back down in the low 40s, the MADC put on some exciting action in four races on the card on Friday (March 23).  The races didn’t disappoint and the betting public was once again treated to and rewarded with none of the betting favorites winning in these events.

The first race featured a little bit of everything from horses leaving from outside posts, to a horse off the course to an exciting finish.  When all was said and done, it was longshot Laneside Logic GB (Rob Harmon), who scooted up the cones and found room late to win by just over a length margin.

Premier Joy A (Mckenzie Sowers), the early pace setter, held second while Harry Hanover (James Slendorn) was moved up from fourth to third, via a DQ.  The mile went in 1:55.4.  The 9-year-old gelding is owned by Dein Spriggs out of FL and is trained by Harmon as well.

The second race on the card featured more action from start to finish. After several horses left for early supremacy, and the second quarter backed down, this made for a sprint to the finish line. All ten horses were charted within about three lengths of the eventual winner.

Even though Rollinwitdaponyzzz (Scott Keppler) pulled before the half, he was still able to maneuver to the top late to win by a head over longshot Meet The Creeper (Bruno Chiodo). Camlachie Chrome (Cote Keim) came from way back to round out the trifecta. This mile was timed in 1:57.3. The 6-year-old gelding is also owned by Keppler out of CT and is trained by Danny Gill.

The fifth race on the card featured more of the same with not too many leavers but the speed didn’t hang on in the end. That’s because Rock On Line (Anthony Verruso) pulled first up at the half and was able to grind down the leaders to win by two lengths in a fast 1:53.4.

Dandy Idea (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan) sat the pocket and wound up second while the early pacesetter, Bionic (Michael Shults) hung on for third. The 10-year-old horse is owned by Verruso himself out of NY and is trained by Symon Spicer.

The eighth and final race found another early tussle for the top and the first half mile in a blazing :54.4 took its toll on the leader and set it up for the closers. It was a traffic troubled trip for Somiki (Madeliene Young) who weaved in and out and found room in the lane to get up in time in the shadow of the wire over pocket-sitter Ferdinand A (James Slendorn).

Longshot Claytons Bettor N (William Harrison) was placed third via a DQ to round out a nice trifecta.  This mile went in 1:53.2. It was Maddy’s first win at the Big M for this newcomer from down under, who also one the ladies event last week at Freehold. The 5-year-old gelding is owned by Ultra Championship Racing out of NJ and is trained by Justin Sodano.

The MADC will be back on Saturday (March 23) for one race on the card.  Post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
