Magical Mistress still ‘magical’ at Buffalo

Hamburg, NY — Magical Mistress ($9.90) posted her fourth consecutive victory in Wednesday’s (March 27) $14,000 Open Pace for fillies and mares at Buffalo Raceway.

The well-traveled Magical Mistress arrived off a victory at Monticello Raceway on March 11 after collecting back-to-back victories at Batavia Downs in February. Assigned to post eight in her Buffalo debut, Magical Mistress took a first-over trip and eventually wore down pacesetter McNatural N in the stretch drive.

McNatural N (David McNeight III) took the top spot in the early going and posted fractions of :29.2, :58.2 and 1:28 over a fast track. But those splits weren’t enough in the end as Magical Mistress (Jim Morrill Jr.) began her trek from the fourth spot down the backstretch the final time.

On almost even terms turning for home, Magical Mistress slowly cut into McNatural N’s narrow lead and eventually cruised away for a 1-1/4-length victory in 1:56.4.

McNatural N held onto second while Arco N (Drew Monti) captured the show spot.

Owned by Michael Mlazzo and trained by Candace Brandstatter, Magical Mistress, an 8-year-old Camystic-Meridian Magic mare, earned her fourth win in six tries in 2024. The victory upped her seasonal bankroll to $20,430 and $338,453 lifetime.

Kevin Cummings and Morrill had three driving wins with Joe Chindano Jr. and James McNeight Jr. each notching a pair of victories on the program. Angelo Nappo had two training scores.

Buffalo Raceway will return to action on Friday afternoon (March 29) at 2:30 p.m. with a 10-race program slated. For more information, including the latest news, upcoming promotions, entries, results and race replays, go to www.buffaloraceway.com.
