Mcseaside sets track record in Ohio Sires Stakes at Scioto

Columbus, OH — Mcseaside took the second division of the Ohio Sires Stakes for 3-year-old filly pacers on Monday (May 29) at Eldorado Scioto Down in track record fashion. The Ron Burke trainee won in 1:49.4; the previous track record of 1:50.1 was set in 2020 by Mcmarkle Sparkle.

Mcseaside (Downbytheseaside) left out of the six hole, got away fourth at the hotly contested :25.3 opening quarter and pulled second over by the :54.1 half. Driver Chris Page had her in gear by the 1:22 third quarter and won by 1-1/2 lengths over Dragon By The Sea (Tyler Smith) and Fear Of Sports (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.).

“They were mixing it up pretty early,” said Page in the post-race winner’s circle interview. “Ronnie had this filly super good tonight, and she was really sharp scoring down.”

Mcseaside was bred by Andray Farm and Sergent Stables and is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Beasty, J&T Silva Stables and Knox Services. Mcseaside now has $62,500 earned on the year in five starts with two wins and a second.

Cruise Alert (Yankee Cruiser) took the $55,000 first OSS division by leading at every call and sprinting home in :27.4 to win in 1:51.3 by a length over race favorite Hey Hey Mama (Wrenn). Dan Noble drove the winner for trainer Jeff Nisonger and owners Our Three Sons Stable and Nisonger Stable. Cruise Alert now has four wins in six 2023 starts, a new lifetime mark and $78,000 in seasonal earnings.

In the lone division of the OSS for 3-year-old filly trotters, 40-1 longshot Contechsfashion took the lion’s share of the $100,000 purse, winning by a half-length in 1:54.2. Trevor Smith was at the lines for trainer Chris Beaver. It was just the filly’s second lifetime win, but she had just won the Konesky Trot 11 days ago in 1:55.3 and seems to be in top form now.

“I thought she could be competitive,” said Beaver. “She was good early on and then she tied up before the first leg of the Sire Stakes (on May 6).”

Martin Yoder and Evans Cattle Co own the Christina Coblentz bred filly by Credit Fashion. Contechsfashion paid $83.00 to win. Race favorite Rose Run Yolanda (Brett Miller) was second with Rose Run Yanae (Page) getting up for third.
