Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

A THANK YOU, AND SOME SCHEDULE NOTES
Track management at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows would like to thank everyone that has helped our winter months to be some of our most successful ever, with large fields, strong purses and increased handle, and we look forward to expanding that success along with our racing schedule in April.

Post times through the end of March remain Wednesday through Friday at 12:45 p.m., but racing fans and horsemen are reminded that we will be taking a brief hiatus from racing in early April.

After the race card concludes on Friday (March 31), we will be taking our annual spring break for track maintenance. When we return on Wednesday (April 12), it will mark the beginning of our four-day per week racing through the spring and summer, with action on Wednesday through Saturday.

FIVE WINS
Middle posts continue to prove to be the best spot at The Meadows. Through the first eight weeks of the season, post position five has produced the most winners, at 17.5 percent. Post position five has been the leading post at the track for most of the last decade and a half. Post three is the second-best place so far in 2023, at 14.9 percent, followed by post four at 14.6 percent. Post position one, sought after at half-mile tracks, is only the fifth-best post to have on The Meadows’ five-eighths-mile oval this year.

SERIES RACES CONTINUE
The first group of Early Closer Series of the season continue this week at The Meadows. This week’s second leg of the four events for 3- and 4-year-olds will be the final opportunity for horses to earn points toward next week’s finals. Series races take place daily this week.

FINAL CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Horse owners and trainers are advised that the April events, which will be solely for 3-year-old trotters and pacers, are nearing the nomination deadline. Nominations must be postmarked by this Wednesday (March 15). For more information, follow this link.
