Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA – Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo

Guaranteed pools on Wednesday

Hollywood Casino at The Meadows will start the week with a couple of guaranteed pools for the Wednesday (July 5) card. The final Pentafecta this past Saturday (July 1), and the Pick-5, were not hit, resulting in carryovers. On Wednesday, The Meadows, in conjunction with the USTA’s Strategic Wagering Program and the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association, will guarantee the Pentafecta pool in race four to $20,000. The Pick-5, which takes place in races 8-12, will be guaranteed to $7,500.

As a reminder, the Pentafecta is a “hit it and win it” wager, not a jackpot pool. All tickets correctly picking the top-5 finishers will share in the full pool, minus takeout. Post time Wednesday will be 12:45 p.m.

Dual-Breed Pick-4 coming

The Meadows and its sister track in Grantville, Pennsylvania, Penn National Race Course, will be teaming for a new low-takeout dual-breed wager. The Meadows-Penn Pick-4 will make its debut on Friday night (July 14). Featuring a 12% takeout, the wager will consist of two races from each track every Friday night during the summer.

Double Metal sets season standard

A $10,500 conditioned pace on Thursday (July 6) afternoon resulted in the fastest mile of the season at The Meadows this past Thursday (June 29) afternoon. Double Metal, a 5-year-old gelded son of Betting Line, went wire-to-wire in a non-winners of $5,500 in the last  four starts pace in 1:48.3. After getting parked to the quarter in :26.4, driver Anthony MacDonald hustled the Tim Twaddle trainee to the half in :54.2, then kept rolling to the ¾ in 1:21.2 before pacing home in 27.1. The mile just missed the track record for older pacing geldings. Rick Berks owns Double Metal, who was sent off at 1-9.
