Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA – Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo:

RACING FOUR DAYS THIS WEEK

Hollywood Casino at The Meadows will be racing our regular summer schedule this week, Wednesday (Aug. 16) and Thursday (Aug. 17) at 12:45 p.m., Friday (Aug. 18) at 5:10 p.m., and Saturday (Aug. 19) at 12:45 p.m. The Wednesday and Thursday cards, which have already been drawn, will feature 13 races

SHARP STABLE

TheStable.ca has been on a roll with its horses at The Meadows. As a driver, Anthony MacDonald’s win percentage of 21.6% is third highest among Meadows regulars, trailing only Ronnie Wrenn (28.6%) and Dave Palone (22.9%). Trainer Tim Twaddle, who conditions TheStable.ca’s horses locally, has climbed to 6th in wins with 37 and 5th in purses, climbing to over $500,000 in 256 starts.

TRIPLE THREAT

Trainer Dirk Simpson entered last week with an unusual statistic – his horses had finished first 71 times, while also posting 71 second place finishes and 71 third place finishes. It shouldn’t be a surprise, then, that Simpson’s horses last week added two wins, two seconds, and two thirds, giving him a line of 73-73-73 in 480 starts. His 73 victories are second best at The Meadows, trailing only Ron Burke (164).

STAKE ACTION SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

Pennsylvania Sire Stake action returns to The Meadows this weekend. The 2-year-old pacing colts will be featured in the Tyler B PASS on Friday evening, while freshmen colt trotters will compete in the Florida Pro. Both events are named for top stake horses in the Commonwealth from past years. In addition to PASS races, each respective division will hold PA Stallion Series stakes.
