Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA – Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

3 DAYS OF RACING THIS WEEK
Hollywood Casino at The Meadows will be racing just three days this week – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 12:45 p.m.. Please note the change from our regular Friday twilight card. The annual Corks & Kegs Festival will be taking place on Saturday(Aug. 26) and Sunday (Aug. 27), so there will be no live racing on Saturday.

FILLY PACERS IN STAKES ACTION THURSDAY
Thursday’s 14-race card will feature multiple divisions of stake races for PA-sired 2-year-old pacing fillies. Two $81,000+ divisions of the Meadow Cheer will be the highlight. Returning to The Meadows will be My Girl EJ, a filly out of the Ron Burke Stable, who set a stake record here on Adios Day in the Arden Downs, pacing in 1:51.1. The other division will feature Lyons Legend, out of the Jim King Stable. When she won a stake here on July 8, it was her second straight win to begin her career. The filly is now 5-for-5, and is fresh off a career-best 1:50.2 win at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Aug. 17. The stake record for Thursday’s event, which stands at 1:51, will be in danger.

ADIOS ENTRANTS RETURN FRIDAY
The draw has not been completed as of Monday’s Memo deadline, but it is expected that several entrants from this year’s Adios will return to The Meadows this Friday afternoon (Aug. 25) for the Tarport Effrat Pennsylvania Sire Stake pace. The top 3-year-old colts in the state will be battling in their final opportunity to earn points in hopes of making the $250,000 championship coming up in September.

PALONE EXTENDS LEAD
Driver Dave Palone recorded seven wins in 11 drives on Saturday’s card (Aug. 19), extending his lead over Ronnie Wrenn to 77 victories on the year, 256-189. Aaron Merriman is third at 136 wins. Wrenn is tops in winning percentage, as he has been victorious in 28.6% of his drives this season.
