Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

NO CHANGES TO DECEMBER SCHEDULE
Hollywood Casino at The Meadows will race three days this week, Wednesday through Friday, at 12:45 p.m. That schedule will remain constant through the rest of the calendar year.

SIMPSON TOPS 100
Trainer Dirk Simpson reached a milestone earlier this month at The Meadows, earning his 100th victory of the season as a conditioner. It marks the first time since he moved his operation to The Meadows several years ago that he has reached triple digits in wins. He currently has 103, which puts him in second place behind Ron Burke for the season.

MACKENZIE RETURNS FROM MAINE
Trainer Cain Mackenzie has joined the list of trainers bringing new horses to The Meadows for the winter. The Maine-based conditioner had 48 starts earlier in 2023 at The Meadows before heading to his regular home in the Northeast, and has now returned with several horses and has claimed two in the past two weeks.

FULL FIELD FOR THURSDAY FEATURE
Thursday’s feature, the $21,200 Open Handicap Trot, has drawn a full field of nine. Emerald’s Legacy, last week’s winner, has drawn post four, getting the best of the handicap draw which separated posts 1-3 and posts 4-9. Getting the worst of the draw is newcomer Ponda Adventure, a recent purchase by trainer Bill Bercury and his wife Renee. The 4-year-old son of Swan For All, a career winner of $753,432, has been with conditioner Erv Miller, winning 27 of 46 lifetime starts.
