Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

EIGHT QUALIFIERS SET FOR TUESDAY
Eight qualifying races will take place Tuesday morning (Feb. 6) at 11 a.m. The action can be seen live on the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association Facebook page.

FOUR-TIME WINNER?
Wednesday’s first race will feature a mare going for her fourth win of 2024, and her seventh in a row. The Gypsy Queen IR, trained by Mickey Burke Jr., will leave from post six in a Starter Allowance for mares. An Irish-bred daughter of Foreclosure N, the mare started her win streak on Nov. 9 for the Burke barn. She was claimed by the Brandon Presto Stable out of a $15,000 claimer, won two straight, then was claimed back for $20,000 by the Burke Stable, where she has won three more times. She is now 20 for 51 in her career.

JUST SHY OF THE MAX
The 13-race card on Thursday has drawn full nine-horse fields for all but one race, the Open Trot. Barring any late scratches, the card will feature 116 entries and plenty of wagering opportunities.

LLOYD STABLE POSTING STRONG NUMBERS
Trainer Justin Lloyd, who made several appearances at The Meadows in 2023 after shipping from Hoosier Park, is off to a very strong start in 2024. He has raced 20 horses, with eight wins and seven third place finishes, with a Universal Trainer Rating of .517. Lloyd has six horses entered at The Meadows on Wednesday and Thursday, combined.
